Replacing a MedKaz

If a patient loses or damages their MedKaz, they will need to replace it and recover their records from a backup copy. As a protection for the patient, backed up records can be recovered only to an official MedKaz device, which they can purchase from you, if you are a Dispenser-Licensee, or other care providers who are.

The recovery procedure is the same whether your patient has backed up their MedKaz to their own computer, to a commercial backup service (such as Mozy, Carbonite, or .Mac), or whether you back it up for them to your computer as a service.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Plug a new, empty MedKaz into the computer on which the backup copy is stored. Ignore the New Account screen that appears.
  2. Open the backup folder. The backup files are usually stored (in Windows) in Documents/MEDKAZ FOLDERS/BACKUPS. Look for a folder that has the patient's name and a date. Select the folder with the most recent date available.
  3. Double click the recover.exe file (Recover if you are using a Macintosh):

  4. In the dialog box that opens, click Find Backup, browse to the backup directory (this should be the folder that contains the recover.exe or Recover file).
  5. Click once on the most recent backup folder – the date the folder was created is part of the folder name – then click the Select button:

  6. On the MedKaz Recovery screen, click the Find MedKaz button and select the drive that contains the new MedKaz.
  7. Click the Recover button and restore the files to the new device.

Have the patient enter their password when prompted.

IF YOUR PATIENT DOES NOT HAVE A BACKUP COPY OF THEIR MEDKAZ, THERE IS NO WAY TO RESTORE ITS CONTENTS. THEY MUST START OVER AS IF THEY WERE A NEW PATIENT, AND AGAIN ASSEMBLE THEIR RECORDS FROM ALL THEIR CARE PROVIDERS.
